Others say they would like to be employed if they had the opportunity. These individuals face many barriers, such as lack of transportation, access to vocational training, and willing employers.
An aging population, the increase in traumatic injuries and improved diagnosis of disabling conditions all contribute to a population with disabilities that continues to expand. This growth occurs within a complicated context of reduced government spending on social programs, the uncertainty of social security, and a fluctuating economy.
Based on these findings, the Board of Trustees of Kessler Foundation has decided to strategically focus the majority of its external grant allocations toward increasing the employment of people with physical disabilities.
