Jerome Allen is a talented Research Engineer in the Rehabilitation Engineering Analysis Laboratory (R.E.A.L) at Kessler Research Center. He received his B.S. in Computer Engineering and his M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. While in graduate school, Jerome served as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Neuromuscular Engineering laboratory where his research focused on developing the hardware and software means to help the hearing-impaired communicate with the non-hearing impaired. His work provided remarkable contributions to the development of devices able to recognize sign language and convert it into spoken English and, conversely, to convert spoken words into three-dimensional (3D) animated sign language.
Jerome’s expertise is biomedical instrumentation and he provides hardware/software support in the research endeavors of the R.E.A.L. His responsibilities include design and debugging hardware for sensor signal conditioning and data collection, participation in data collection in trials involving human subjects, assisting with the preparation of grant submissions and publication manuscripts, and developing the hardware/software means necessary for data collection.
